Damian Browne will continue to battle top jockey Nash Rawiller for a spot in the winner’s circle when they go head to head at Doomben Racecourse tomorrow Wednesday June 22, 2011.
Browne and Rawiller are currently in a battle with each other, along with Tasmanian jockey Brendan McCoull, to finish the season as the best strike-rate rider in the country.
The jockey has been given medical advice not to continue his career as a jockey, but instead restricts his book to a more manageable four rides per day.
“It’s more a management thing,” Browne said.
“I found in the past when I’ve had seven or eight rides I’ve had trouble walking the next day.
“The doctors told me to give racing away because they reckoned my leg wouldn’t stand up to the rigours of riding but I was determined to ride again.”
Browne returned from a suspension on Friday and has since won six of his eight rides.
The jockey credits his manager for much of his success.
“I leave it up to my manager to sort out which rides I take and which ones I don’t,” he said.
“Obviously it’s hard to please everyone but my manager seems to get it right most times.”
Browne currently has an impressive win percentage of 24.44 per cent, winning 76 of his 311 season rides, while Rawiller sits close at 24.15 per cent, winning 107 of his 443 total rides.
